Reverse Engineered Object: Selection

Here are the three objects I picked out and inspected for the reverse engineered object assignment (a UFO, a little plastic container shaped like a suitcase, and a cat treat dispenser): 




I ended up choosing the cat treat dispenser, because I quickly found out that there were parts to the other two items that could not be removed, as opposed to the treat dispenser which could be taken apart entirely. I think being able to measure and create each individual piece will be more challenging and rewarding for me in the end!!

Surface Design Study

When it came the planning stages for this project, the very first picture I took determined the theme of my design:  I love incorporating animals/creatures into my art, so when I saw this wallpaper when I was waiting in a Tim Hortons, I got super excited and immediately started planning in my head while I continued to find examples of surface design. I didn't end up incorporating everything I found, but I did use aspects from these images (below). The first image was the inspiration for the top of the hat I put on my goose, the second image was the inspiration for the hat as well as the stars, and for the third image, I took inspiration from the way the white portion from the bottom trickles up into the green portion with leaf-like silhouettes.           (My favorite, after the geese)

Reverse Engineered Object - Progress II

 I've started to turn the geometry for my object into 3D forms, and it's going well for the most part!  So far, everything is looking the way I want it to, and I'm really having fun with the shell tool. But there's a specific piece of the object that I'm stuck on, and it's this part:  I've been trying to get rid of the part beneath the wavy bit. The waves are supposed to look like this:  I've spent a long time on this part and tried all sorts of things--I tried using the split command, boolean difference, and overall a lot of moving things around and trying things a bunch of different ways. I'll have to come back to this part, but all in all I feel myself becoming more comfortable with this program as I work on this object. :)

Milestone Projects

  - Castle - - Surface Design Study - - Surface Design Applications - - Reverse Engineered Object -  - Wearable Object - This semester was my first experience with any sort of 3D modelling, and I was able to achieve one of the goals I had set for myself after the castle milestone project: learning how to create organic forms. I have learned so much and look forward to applying what I’ve learned to personal projects now that I’ve discovered how fun 3D modelling is!!
